چکیده

Electron degeneracy effects are dominant in ultra-dense plasmas (UDP), such as those found in white dwarfs. These effects can be treated systematically by obtaining an expansion of the screening length in inverse powers of ~. The theory exhibits Thomas-Fermi-like screening in an appropriate regime. In general, our theory leads to an O(1) effect on the enhancement of fusion rates in white dwarfs. Further, it is shown analytically for these stellar conditions that Bose statistics of nuclei have a negligible effect on the screening length, in consonance with Monte Carlo simulations found in literature. Systematic relativistic quantum effects on screening of fusion rates in white dwarfs

Relativistic electron degeneracy effects are dominant in ultra-dense plasmas (UDP), such as those found in white dwarfs. These effects can be treated systematically by obtaining an expansion of the screening length in inverse powers of ~. In general, our theory leads to an O(10) effect on the enhancement of fusion rates in white dwarfs. Further, it is shown analytically for these stellar condit...

Electron screening effect on stellar thermonuclear fusion

We study the impact of plasma correlation effects on nonresonant thermonuclear reactions for various stellar objects, namely in the liquid envelopes of neutron stars, and the interiors of white dwarfs, low-mass stars, and substellar objects. We examine in particular the effect of electron screening on the enhancement of thermonuclear reactions in dense plasmas within and beyond the linear mixin...

The effect of electron gas polarization on thermonuclear reaction rates in dense stars

In dense stars the nuclear reaction rates are influenced by screening effects arising from both ions and electrons. In this paper we calculate the enhancement factors due to electron polarization in the high-density, degenerate and relativistic regime, for non-resonant nuclear reaction rates. In an earlier analysis, Sahrling had proposed the possibility that the polarized electrons would lower ...

Thermonuclear fusion in dense stars

We study the plasma correlation effects on nonresonant thermonuclear reactions of carbon and oxygen in the interiors of white dwarfs and liquid envelopes of neutron stars. We examine the effects of electron screening on thermodynamic enhancement of thermonuclear reactions in dense plasmas beyond the linear mixing rule. Using these improved enhancement factors, we calculate carbon and oxygen ign...

Effects of rotation on the helium burning shell source in accreting white dwarfs

We investigate the effects of rotation on the behavior of the helium burning shell source in accreting carbon-oxygen white dwarfs, in the context of the single degenerate Chandrasekhar mass progenitor scenario for Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). We model the evolution of helium accreting white dwarfs of initially 1 M⊙, assuming four different constant accretion rates (2, 3, 5 and 10×10 M⊙/yr). In ...
